A FELLOWSHIP OF LIGHT

I JOHN 1:3-7

INTRODUCTION:

  A.  Men are social beings who seek out fellowship

  B.  Greek terms:

        1.  “Koi-no-nee-ahn” = “Fellowship; partnership; communion; aid; relief; contribution to aid”; Acts                2:42; 4:32

        2.  “Sko-tee-ah” = “Darkness; privacy; moral or spiritual darkness”;  I John 1:5-6

               a.  Sinners are called out of darkness; I Peter 2:9

               b.  Paul told the brethren; Ephesians 5:8

        3.  “Phos” = “Light; broad day; radiance; blaze of light; illumination; a source of spiritual light or                    brightness”

C.  Christians are called into communion (fellowship) with true and pure light; John 1:1-5

  I.  RELATION OF GOD TO LIGHT AND DARKNESS: I John 1:5

       A.  Paul wrote; II Corinthians 6:14-17

       B.  God has no part with sin; Christians are delivered out of darkness; Colossians 1:13

             1.  Delivered from sin; I John 1:5; Colossians 1:13

             2.  Separated from darkness; II Corinthians 6:17-18

 II.  THE CHRISTIAN PRIVILEGE: I John 1:3

       A.  Partners in the Light; II Corinthians 4:6

       B.  “Ye are the light”; Matthew 5:14-16

       C.  A great privilege to walk in God’s light; I John 1:7

III.  CHRISTIAN RESPONSIBILITY AS LIGHT; Matthew 5:14-16

       A.  To cast off the works of darkness; I Thessalonians 5:4-9

       B.  To make a difference as a unique people; I Peter 2:9

       C.  To shine forth with the glory of God; Philippians 2:15

CONCLUSION:

       A.  The greatest fellowship (partnership) of all

       B.  A partnership designed to call the world out of darkness into God’s light
