PHILIPPIANS 2:1-5

INTRODUCTION:

  A.  Christ and the Word are one; John 1:1-2

  B.  Jesus obeyed the Father; Hebrews 5:8-9

  C.  Christians are to mold themselves in the image of Christ; Philippians 4:8

  D.  A look at what the “Christian Attitude” should be

I.  THE CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE TOWARD THE WILL OF GOD:

     A.   Jesus’ purpose was to do; Luke 2:49; Matthew 26:39

     B.  Jesus pointed out the necessity of doing; John 4:34

           1.  “I can do nothing”; John 5:30

           2.  “I came to do the will”; John 6:38-39

           3.  “Work the works”; John 9:4

           4.  Near the end of His life; John 17:4

    C.  The most important thing in this life; Matthew 7:21; Ecclesiastes 12:13

    D.  God accepts only the best place in Christian lives; Luke 22:42

    E.  To truly pray “Thy will be done” we must:

          1.  Have faith in God’s love, power and wisdom; Psalm 4:5

          2.  Humble ourselves to do His will; James 4:6-10

          3.  We must be willing to suffer for Him; Matthew 16:25

II.  THE CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE TOWARD SINNERS: Matthew 9:10-13

      A.  Must be careful not to elevate themselves; Romans 12:3, 16

      B.  False pride will cost the Christian his soul; Proverbs 6:16-19

      C.  Modern Pharisees; Matthew 7:1-5

      D.  A Christians duty is to share the message of Christ; Matthew 28:19-20;

            James 2:1-9

III.  THE CHRISTIAN MUST HAVE COMPASSION FOR OTHERS: Matthew 9:3

      A.  Example of compassion; John 11:1-46 (35-37)

      B.  The Christian is to imitate Christ; Romans 12:15

            1.  Have compassion for one another; I Peter 3:8

            2.  Hebrews 4:15; I John 3:17

CONCLUSION:

     A.  Christians must be like the Lord; Philippians 2:5

     B.  A Christian attitude is to be one of obedience and compassion;

          Romans 13:8

     C.  How does your attitude compare to that of Jesus?
