Deliverance Required a Sacrifice

Introduction:  In our meeting together we will be striving to look at the deliverance that God has provided for us in the present age in which we live.

  1. Galatians 1:3-5- The Apostle Paul is writing to the churches of Galatia
  • Reminding Christians that Christ gave Himself for them
  • Delivered from this present evil age
  1. Focus on the Meaning of Deliverance
  • To Rescue, pluck out, take away from
  • Implications of doing something for a person that they are unable to do for themselves
  • Swimming lessons as a child

Matthew 18:23-27- 1 denari- 1 days wage- 6,000 denari=1 talent

  1. God has always been a God that has provided deliverance for his people

Exodus 3:7-10- 400 years enslaved; Acts 7:6, Genesis 15:13

  • God said He would deliver them and He did.

Deuteronomy 6:12- Moses is reminding the Israelites to not forget the day that the Lord delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians.

  • Christians today need to be reminded as well to never forget the deliverance that God has given us.
  1. The Greatest act of deliverance God ever did for mankind is the sending of His Son Jesus to deliver man from this present evil age!
  • Jesus showed deliverance in two senses

Matthew 4:23-25- Taking peoples physical illness and disease away

John 5:1-9-

  • Paralyzed for 38 years of his life
  • Could not rescue himself from his paralysis
  • “Rise, take up your bed and walk”

Luke 5:17-25-

  • Paralyzed man lowered through the roof to Jesus
  • He saw their faith and said, “Man, your sins are forgiven you”
  • Scribes and Pharisees thought blasphemy
  • Jesus said which is easier?
  • “You may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins.”

Matthew 20:28- He came to serve and to give His life a ransom for many.

John 1:29- Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

  1. Deliverance Required a Sacrifice
Hebrews 9:22- Without shedding of blood there is no remission (deliverance)
  • At least He was loved and adored by the people for it, right?

John 15:18- The world hated Me, before it hated you

  • This is a part of the sacrifice!  We can’t miss this

Mark 6:1-4- A prophet without honor in his own hometown

Philippians 2:5-8- live as a man, become a man, emptied Himself of His privileges.

Hebrews 4:15- Was in all points tempted yet without sin.

Matthew 26:

14-16- Betrayed by one that was close to Him

65- Falsely accused of blasphemy

67- Spit is His face and beaten.  Others slapped Him

Matthew 27:26- Scourged Him

28-29- Stripped of His clothes and given a scarlet robe and they twisted a crown of thorns.  Mocked Him by saying, “Hail, King of the Jews”

30- Spit on Him some more, hit him with a reed

35- Crucified

38-44- Blasphemed, mocked, made fun of Him

  • All of this was done in front of His mother!
  • Died
  • He didn’t stay in that tomb
  • Let’s not miss this.  Our faith doesn’t hinge on the fact that Jesus died.
  • Our faith hinges on the fact that Jesus resurrected from the dead

1 Corinthians 15:12-19- If Christ didn’t resurrect then our faith is empty and meaningless.

  1. Deliverance Requires a Sacrifice From Us!

Titus 2:11-14- We were delivered from this present evil age and we are to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age.

Romans 6:1-14- Old life is dead a living sacrifice.

Romans 12:1-2- I living sacrifice!

Does sin reign in your mortal body or have you been delivered??
