DEVELOPING A SPIRITUAL MIND

I CORINTHIANS 9:24-27

INTRODUCTION:

A.  The Christian life described:

1.  As a race to be run; Hebrews 12:1

2.  As a battle to be fought; I Timothy 6:12

3.  A life of discipline; I Corinthians 9:27

B.  One cannot be spiritual unless he is on the right path; Proverbs 14:12

C.  Jesus is the way; John 14:6

D.  Our study, “Developing a Spiritual Mind”

I.  A SPIRITUAL MIND IS DEVELOPED THROUGH JESUS:

A.  He leads us to the Father; John 14:6

1.  He came to do the Father’s will; Hebrews 10:7

2.  He expects man to follow His example; Romans 1:16;

B.  One cannot grow in Christ before obedience; Hebrews 5:9

1.  The hearing of the faith; Galatians 3:2

2.  Belief and repentance; Mark 1:15

3.  Confession of faith in Christ; Romans 10:10

4.  One must be baptized into Christ; Galatians 3:27; Romans 6:3-4; I Corinthians 12:13

5.  Christ will save the faithful; Hebrews 7:25; II Peter 3:18

II.  ONE MUST “FLEE, FOLLOW, AND FIGHT”: I Timothy 6:11-12

A.  Context involves worldly living; I Timothy 6:9-10

B.  Flee and follow; II Timothy 2:22

1.  Submit to God, resist evil (the devil); James 4:7

2.  The statement of Jesus; Matthew 6:33

C.  Fight with certainty; I Corinthians 9:24-26

III.  THE PATH TO A SPIRITUAL MIND IS IN CHRIST:

A.  A path of self-discipline; I Corinthians 9:27 (NKJV)

1.  “Hupōpiazō” = “to beat; to buffet; to beat black and blue; to subdue; to keep under”

2.  “Doulagogo” = “to enslave; to buffet; to bring into subjection”

B.  The way to peace and contentment; John 14:13; 14:27; Philippians 4:11

C.  A road to eternal joy and rest; John 14:1-3; Revelation 14:13

CONCLUSION:

A.  The Lord did not promise an easy journey; Matthew 5:10-11

B.  He did promise a great reward; Matthew 5:12

C.  Do you have a spiritual mind? If not, why not?
