EXHORTING ONE ANOTHER

HEBREWS 3:1-15

INTRODUCTION:

A.  In the body of Christ every member is needed:

     1.  Not one member can be lost without hurting the whole;

          Ephesians 4:15-16

     2.  It takes all the members to make a whole; I Corinthians 12:12-14

B.  It is important for every member to take part in building up the church:

      1.  The early church met daily for this purpose; Acts 2:46

      2.  The Hebrew writer stated; Hebrews 10:23-25

C.  Our study should encourage involvement that will aid in church growth

D.  Our topic “Exhorting One Another”

I.  BACKGROUND FOR THE EXHORTATION:

A.  The faithfulness of Christ and Moses is pointed out; Hebrews 3:1-3

B.  As the household of Christ we must hold fast to the truth; Hebrews 3:6

C.  Israel had been a faithless child:

      1.  They had tried God; Hebrews 3:7-9

      2.  God refused rest to Israel; Hebrews 3:10-11

II.  A WARNING TO CHRISTIANS:

A.  “Take heed”; Hebrews 3:12

      1.  Greek word “blĕpō” – “behold; perceive (with understanding), regard, see, take heed”

      2.  Many fail to remain faithful to Christ; Galatians 5:4; II Peter 2:20

B.  Departure from truth is equated to failure to believe God; Hebrews 3:12

C.  The Hebrew writer states that it is possible to fall away and be lost; Hebrews 6:4-6

III.  “EXHORT ONE ANOTHER DAILY”:

A.  Greek word; “Parakalĕō” – “to call near (invite, invoke), (be of good) comfort, entreat, exhort”

B.  “Exhort” – “to earnestly urge by advice, warning, urge, admonish strongly”

C.  Every Christian is to be involved in exhortation; Hebrews 3:13-15

CONCLUSION:

A.  To properly exhort one another we must be present at the assemblies; Hebrews 10:25

B.  Let us consider one another in all that we do; Hebrews 10:24
