FINDING TRUE HAPPINESS

MATTHEW 5:1-12

INTRODUCTION:

A.  God wants His people to be happy; James 1:17

     1.  He provides the physical necessities; Matthew 6:30-33

     2.  He provides for spiritual needs; II Peter 1:3

B.  Paul to the brethren; Philippians 4:19

C.  Our study “Finding True Happiness”

I.  UNDERSTANDING TRUE HAPPINESS:

A.  Happiness is different from wealth, power, pleasure, sensation; Matthew 5:3

      1.  These often bring tyranny, shame, condemnation; I Timothy 6:9-10

      2.  Living in pleasure is equated as death; I Timothy 5:6

B.  Happiness is not dependent on worldly relationships:

      1.  Riches often bring misery; I Timothy 6:9

      2.  Friendship of the world separates from God; James 4:4

C.  True happiness comes from within; I Peter 4:12-13

      1.  Paul’s statement; Philippians 4:11

      2.  Jesus taught happiness in spite of persecution; Matthew 5:10

II.  SOME THINGS THAT AID IN FINDING TRUE HAPPINESS:

A.  A humble spirit; Matthew 5:3-5; James 4:10

B.  Trust in the Lord; Matthew 5:12; Proverbs 3:5-6

C.  A hunger and thirst for righteousness; Matthew 5:6; 6:33

D.  Work and service; I Timothy 5:8

E.  A willingness to share; I John 3:17

III.  SOME THINGS DESTROY TRUE HAPPINESS:

A.  Friendship with the world; James 4:4

B.  Hearts hardened to the needs of others; James 3:14-16

C.  When one speaks evil of his Christian brothers and sisters; Mark 3:25

CONCLUSION:

A.  Have you found true happiness in the way you live?

B.  Obey God and let Him give you true happiness and peace!
