LEARNING TO TRUST GOD

PROVERBS 3:1-12

INTRODUCTION:

A.  Trust a major issue; Jeremiah 17:5-8

      1.  Family abuse is rampant; Job 19:14

      2.  Government betrayal of God and godliness

      3.  Often abandoned by friends and family; II Timothy 4:10

      4.  “Whom shall we trust?” an age old question; Jeremiah 17:5-8

B.  God has never failed or forsaken man; Joshua 21:45; 23:14

C.  Our text demands “Learning To Trust God”

I.  “TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL THINE HEART”: Proverbs 3:5-6

A.  Trust often misplaced:

      1.  Trust in themselves; II Corinthians 1:8-10; Luke 18:9-14

      2.  Trust in “uncertain riches”; I Timothy 6:17; Matthew 6:21

      3.  Trust in man; Jeremiah 17:5, 6; Hebrews 9:27

God will never betray your trust; Jeremiah 17:7- 8

II.  GOD’S PROMISES ARE SURE: TITUS 1:2

A.  God promises to be with those who trust in Him; Hebrews 13:5

      1.  Joshua’s message to Israel; Joshua 24:14-16

      2.  Jesus’ promise to His disciples; Matthew 28:20; John 14:1-3

      3.  Assurance offered; Jeremiah 17:7, 8; Philippians 4:11

      4.  To trust is to submit; Proverbs 3:6; Romans 12:1

B.  God’s promises to those who reject Him; II Chronicles 15:1-2

      1.  Joshua’s warning and Israel’s reply; Joshua 24:19-24

      2.  Warning to the Hebrew brethren; Hebrews 10:26-31

      3.  Jesus’ teaching; John 12:48

III.  TWO WAYS TO TRAVEL: Matthew 7:13-14

A.  No middle of the road; Matthew 12:30

      1.  One cannot serve two masters; Luke 16:13

      2.  All are servants; Romans 6:15-17

B.  Each individual has a choice to make; Joshua 24:15

IV.  TO WHOM WILL YOU GO: John 6:67-69?

A.  No one else has “the words of eternal life”; John 6:69

      1.  One cannot be saved unless he trusts the Lord; Proverbs 3:5

      2.  We must allow Him to direct our way; Proverbs 3:6; Acts 4:12

B.  “God forbid” that man should “forsake the Lord”; Joshua 24:16; Matthew 25:41, 46

CONCLUSION:

A.  Today you will make a choice, whom will you serve?

B.  “Jesus is calling” won’t you obey Him today?
