LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF MOSES

HEBREWS 11:24-27

INTRODUCTION:

A.  During childhood, decisions are made for us:

      1.  Parents are to “train up” (guide, direct) children; Proverbs 22:6

      2.  Paul’s direction to fathers; Ephesians 6:4

B.  There comes a time when one makes his own decisions/life choices:

      1.  Moses made his decision; Hebrews 11:24

      2.  Life: offers many crossroads; Matthew 7:13-14

C.  A look at the success of others will challenge us to make good decisions

D.  A look at the life of Moses will teach us:

      1.  Moses refused some things

      2.  Moses accepted some things

      3.  Motivations for doing what is right

I.  MOSES REFUSED SOME THINGS IN LIFE:

A.  He refused earthly possessions; Hebrews 11:26; Matthew 6:19-20

B.  Moses refused earthly power; Hebrews 11:24; Mark 10:17-22

C.  Moses refused earthly honor; Hebrews 11:24

D.  Moses refused the “pleasures of sin”; Hebrews 11:25

II.  MOSES ACCEPTED SOME THINGS IN LIFE THAT WERE NOT PLEASANT:

A.  He chose to sacrifice; Hebrews 11:24-26

B.  He chose a life of suffering; Hebrews 11:25

C.  He chose a life of service; Hebrews 11:27-29

III.  MOTIVATION BEHIND THE CHOICES OF MOSES:

A.  He was guided by faith; Hebrews 11:24; Romans 10:17

B.  Moses made the sacrifice and endured the suffering; Hebrews 11:27; 11:6;

I Peter 1:8

C.  Moses respected the “recompense of the reward”; Hebrews 11:26; Matthew 25:46

CONCLUSION:

A.  Moses choices were made in the light of eternity: Acts 3:22-23; Matthew 17:1-5; Revelation 15:3

B.  Emphasis on faith; II Corinthians 5:7

C.  Men today need to follow the example of Moses; I Peter 4:16; Colossians 2:20; Hebrews 12:28

D.  Remember: Moses life shows that Destiny is the result of decisions made; Matthew 7:13-14
