“LOVE FOR THE LORD”

PSALM 116:1-16

INTRODUCTION:

A.  Many profess to love the Lord without really knowing God

     1.  John wrote; I John 5:3

     2.  To know and love God we must do His will; I John 2:3

B.  One cannot love the Lord without loving His people; I John 5:3

C.  John stated; I John 4:7-8

D.  The psalmist tells us why he loves the Lord; Psalm 116:1-4

E.  Our lesson “Love For The Lord”

I.  BECAUSE HE HEARD MY VOICE: Psalm 116:1

A.  God hears the prayers of those who love Him; Psalm 116:1

      1.  Jesus promised to answer prayers; Matthew 7:7-8

      2.  Paul told the brethren at Philippi; Philippians 4:6

B.  The brethren at Thessalonica were taught; I Thessalonians 5:17-18

C.  Prayer is a privilege belonging to the children of God; Isaiah 59:2

D.  The blind man who had received his sight stated; John 9:31

II.  THE PSALMIST WOULD CALL UPON THE LORD: Psalm 116:2

A.  As long as he lived; Psalm 116:2

B.  In obedience to Him; Psalm 116:9

     1.  Even in the most trying times; Psalm 116:3, 6

     2.  He stated; Psalm 116:5, 8

C.  Without obedience the call has no power or value; Romans 10:13-17;

      Psalm 116:12-16

III.  THE LORD IS GRACIOUS, RIGHTEOUS AND MERCIFUL: Psalm 116:5

A.  Consider His benefits; Psalm 103:1-6

      1.  He will help us; Psalm 116:6, 8

      2.  Paul wrote; Philippians 4:19

B.  He will give salvation to those who accept it; Psalm 116:12-14, 16

      1.  Paul stated; Romans 1:16-17

      2.  Jesus spoke of the importance of doing God’s will; Matthew 7:21-23

C.   He will release us from the bondage of sin; James 1:25

CONCLUSION:

A.  Can I/you truly say “I Love The Lord” as the psalmist did?

B.  Have you yielded to His will; Psalm 116:16; I John 5:3

C.  “Where will you spend your eternity”?
