LOVE GOD’S WORD

PSALMS 119:97-112

INTRODUCTION:

A.  Those who adhere to God’s word are often called fanatics by unbelievers:

1.  A fanatic is one who offers “extreme devotion without questioning”

2.  Paul wrote; I Corinthians 1:18

B.  One cannot love God without loving His word; John 14:15

C.  The psalmist wrote about what it means to love the word of God;

Psalms 119:97-104

D.  Our study “Love God’s Word”

I.  LOVE FOR GOD’S WORD MAKES IT “SWEET” TO THE HEARER:

Psalms 119:103

A.  God’s children desire the word more than anything; I Peter 2:2-3

1.  The psalmist wrote; Psalms 119:105

2.  Every child of God should find joy in gathering to worship God; Psalms 122:1

B.  Those who love the word will meditate in it; Psalms 119:97

1.  Those who love the word will delight in hearing it; Psalms 1:1-2

2.  Paul told Timothy; I Timothy 6:13-14

II.  TO LOVE GOD’S WORD REQUIRES SUBJECTION TO IT:

A.  The psalmist was dedicated to the word; Psalms 119:97

B.  He desired to know and understand the will of God; Psalms 119:99-101

1.  He would not forget the law of God; Psalms 119:109

2.  He stated; Psalms 119:111-112

C.  To truly love the word means that we strive to keep it; I John 2:5

III.  TO LOVE GOD’S WORD REQUIRES CONTINUATION IN IT:

A.  False ways are hated by the Lord’s people; Psalms 119:104

B.  Paul told the brethren; Romans 12:9

C.  The word of God is to be loved/lived daily; Acts 2:46

D.  In spite of all he had suffered the psalmist stated; Psalms 119:110-112

CONCLUSION:

A.  Do we love truly love God’s word?

B.  How do you show your love for God’s word; I John 5:3
