SOME COMMON EXCUSES

MATTHEW 22:1-14

 

 

INTRODUCTION:

A. The wedding is planned, the guests are invited; Matthew 22:1-4

B. Ungrateful guest reject the invitation; Matthew 22:5-6

C. Other guests brought in; Matthew 22:8-10

1. The ungrateful are destroyed; Matthew 22:7

2. The unprepared man is cast out; Matthew 22:11-14

D. The Lord invites all to a heavenly feast; Matthew 11:28-30

3. We have been give “time” to prepare; I Samuel 7:3

4. Those who reject the invitation will not be excused; Romans 1:20

E. A look at “Some Common Excuses” made by man 

 

I. I’M NOT VERY BAD!

A. All sin; Romans 3:23

B. Sin cannot enter heaven; Romans 6:23; Revelation 21:27

1. Cannot be hid; Numbers 32:23

2. Sin brings spiritual death; Ezekiel 18:4

C. All need the saving grace of God; Ephesians 2:8

 

II. I AM GOOD ENOUGH!

A. You may think so; but does God; Romans 3:10

B. No man is just on his own record; Ezekiel 7:20

C. Must obey “the Father’s will”; Matthew 7:21; II Thessalonians 1:7-9

 

III. I AM TOO SINFUL!

A. The Lord’s mission; Luke 19:10; I Timothy 1:15

B. I’m just not good enough to be a Christian; Matthew 9:12-13; Isaiah 1:18

 

IV. I’M TOO YOUNG: I AM TOO OLD!

A. “Remember”; Ecclesiastes 12:1

B. The words of Jesus; Matthew 18:3

C. “Even to old age”; Isaiah 46:4

 

CONCLUSION:

A. We may deceive ourselves with our excuses; James 1:22

B. We cannot deceive God; Galatians 6:7; Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

C. You have “no excuse” in denying the Lord; Romans 1:20; John 12:48
