Psalm 4:1-8

INTRODUCTION:

A.  “In the Beginning…” Genesis 1:1

B.  The eternal one; John 1:1-3

C.  Consider the scriptures and “Stand In Awe Of God”; Psalm 33:8-9

      1.  Hung the earth on nothing; Job 26:7

      2.  The order of the universe; Hebrews 11:3

      3.  Sun, moon, and stars; Genesis 1:14-17

      4.  The psalmist wrote; Psalm 114:7-8

D.  “Awe” = “Fear, trembling, respect”; James 2:19

I.  A GOD TO STAND IN AWE OF GOD; AS OTHERS HAVE:

    A.  Jacob; Genesis 28:16-17

    B.  Israel; Exodus 19:23; 20:18-19

    C.  Isaiah; Isaiah 6:5

    D.  John; Revelation 1:17

II.  BIBLE PASSAGES ARE RELEVANT TO OUR DAY: Romans 1:28

      A.  A world (often religious world) that does not fear God; II Timothy 3:5;

           Galatians 5:19-21

      B.  We must cleanse ourselves; II Corinthians 7:1

      C.  Psalmist wrote; “Stand in awe and sin not”; Psalm 4:4

III.  OUR LIFE AND WORSHIP: Psalm 4:2-3

       A.  Often choose to worship according to our feelings; Psalm 22:22-23

IV.  LACK OF FEAR SEEN IN THE WAY WE REGARD GOD’S WORD:

      3.  We are told; Romans 6:5

B.  Worship; Do it my way; Colossians 2:23

      1.  Singing; often perverted; Ephesians 5:19

      2.  Lord’s Supper; Acts 20:7; I Corinthians 11:26

C.  When we stand in awe, we obey God; Hebrews 12:28

      1.  Paul to the citizens of Athens; Acts 17:25

      2.  Other exortations; Matthew 28:19; II Corinthians 4:7; Matthew 25:35-40; Galatians 6:10

CONCLUSION:

“Stand In Awe Of God” and persuade men also; II Corinthians 5:11

That it may “be well” with you; Ecclesiastes 8:12
