THE CHURCH IS TO BE HOLY

EPHESIANS 2:14-22

INTRODUCTION:

A. The church has been described in many ways:

     1.  Peter wrote; I Peter 2:5, 9

     2.  Paul calls the church “the body” of Christ; Ephesians 1:22-23

B.  Our text draws a very distinct picture of the church as a unit of believers

C.  Our lesson “God’s Church is to be Holy”

I.  THE BODY OF CHRIST; THE CHURCH:

A.  Is made up of individuals joined together in Christ; I Corinthians 12:12-14

B.  Strangers and foreigners become one with the family of God; Ephesians 2:12-13

      1.  The church members are called saints because they have chosen to obey God and have been                       cleansed by the blood of Christ; Ephesians 2:19

      2.  Church is the household of God and is therefore holy; Philippians 2:15; Ephesians 2:21

II.  THE BODY (CHURCH) IS MADE HOLY BY CHRIST:

A.  Jesus stated; Matthew 16:18

B.  Her foundation is the truths spoken by holy men of God with Jesus as the chief of the cornerstone;              Ephesians 2:20

      1.  Peter stated; I Peter 2:6-8

      2.  Paul wrote; II Timothy 3:16-17

C.  It is “in Christ”, His body, that mankind is made holy; Ephesians 2:21

      1.  The church is “an holy temple of God; Ephesians 2:22

      2.  The temple must be kept holy if God is expected to dwell in it;

           I Corinthians 3:16-17; Colossians 2:2, 19

CONCLUSION:

A.  As God is holy, so must the church be holy; I Peter 1:15-16

B.  Have you been washed in the blood of Jesus? Acts 22:16

C.  Let Jesus make you holy as a part of God’s family
