“THE HAND OF GOD”

I Peter 5:1-11

INTRODUCTION:

A.  “The Hand of God” appears often in scripture; Deuteronomy 7:19

      1.  Sometimes ‘The Hand of the Lord” Joshua 4:24

      2.  Since God is Spirit we attribute human characteristics to Him in a figurative sense; John 4:24; I                 Kings 8:15-16

B.  The “Hand of God” refers to activity or power; I Peter 5:6

C.  Our study “The Hand of God”

I.  THE HAND OF GOD IS THE HAND OF CREATION: Isaiah 59:1

     A.  The world came into existence by the word of God; John 1:1-3

     B.  God’s omnipotent voice spoke and it was done; Genesis 1:1-27 (26-27)

     C.  Creation is the only plausible explanation for the existence of the world

II.  THE HAND OF GOD IS THE HAND OF SALVATION: Isaiah 59:1

      A.  God had a plan to save man before creation; Ephesians 1:4

            1.  His desire to save is clearly presented;  Genesis 3:15; II Peter 3:9

            2.  God alone has the power to save; Romans 1:16; Hebrews 7:25

      B.  God’s hand of entreaty is proof of His desire to save; Matthew 23:37; Romans 10:21; Isaiah 65:2

      C.  Jesus calls; Matthew 11:28

      D.  His hand knocks on the door of our hearts; Revelation 3:20

      E.  His hand reaches into the horrible pit of sin to rescue man; Psalms 40:2

III.  THE HAND OF THE LORD IS THE HAND OF PROVICDENCE:

       A.  The hand of direction, choice; Hosea 11:3; Joshua 24:15

       B.  The hand of protection; Daniel 3:17

       C.  The hand of correction; Hebrews 12:28-29

       D.  The hand of providence brings great blessings; Genesis 1:28;

             Matthew 6:33-34

CONCULSION:

A.  Man was created and continues to exist through the powerful hand of God; Acts 17:28

B.  Will you submit to the powerful hand of God and accept His blessings? James 4:7
