            A.        The church is the body of Christ; Romans 12:4-5

            B.        Each member is responsible for his own actions; Romans 12:1-2

                        1.         Salvation belongs to the obedient; Galatians 6:4; James 1:22

                        2.         Yet, each has a debt to others of like faith; Galatians 6:1-2; Romans 13:8

            C.        Our study “The Importance of Spiritual Unity”


I.          THE BODY OF CHRIST IS ONE BODY:  I Corinthians 12:12-14

            A.        Each member is connected to all others; Romans 12:4-5

                        1.         As members of the body we are equal; Romans 12:3

                        2.         It is God who sets (gives place to) each member, according to his/her ability; I Corinthians 12:18-19; I Peter 4:11

            B.        Each member is unique in his God-given role; Romans 12:5-8

                        1.         Paul told the brethren at Corinth; I Corinthians 12:11

                        2.         Paul also pointed out that no member can exclude himself and still be a part of Christ; I Corinthians 12:18-27

            C.        Peter described the body as a living house of God; I Peter 2:5, 9


II.        “LET US” AS A WHOLE:

            A.         As a body of Christ we are to function as one:

                        1.       We are “members one of another”; Romans 12:5

                        2.       Paul did not write let “I” or “me”; Romans 12:3

                        3.       We must humble ourselves and be of one mind; Philippians 2:5; I Corinthians 1:10

           B.          “Let us” not “them or they”;  Romans 12:5-8

                        1.       Often used in anger toward one another; Galatians 5:14-15

                        2.       The writer in Psalms stated;  Psalm 101:5

                        3.        When one Christian speaks harshly of another he speaks of the whole body; and shows an evil spirit; Romans 12:9-10



            A.         Paul tells us that every member is to give himself to God; Romans 12:1-2

            B.         One cannot give himself to God without being a part of His body; Acts 2:47; Romans 12:5

            c,         Every member must work together with the others if the body is to survive; I Corinthians 12:26
