Exodus 21:12-15

INTRODUCTION:

A.  Life is a gift from God; Genesis 1:27-28

      1.  Life is precious in God’s sight; Exodus 20:13

      2.  God told Jeremiah; Jeremiah 1:5

B.  Man often fails to recognize the Sanctity of life; Genesis 4:8

C.  A study of “The Sanctity of Life”

I.  GOD IS THE GIVER OF ALL LIFE: Genesis 2:7; Zechariah 12:1

    A.  The first murder; Genesis 4:1-15 (8-9)

           1.  The reason is clear; Genesis 4:3-5

           2.  The consequence of sin; Genesis 4:11-15

    B.  God’s command to Israel; Exodus 20:13

    C.  God sustains life; Psalms 55:22

          1.  Luke wrote; Acts 17:28

          2.  The psalmist stated; Psalms 23:4

    D.  The death of His children is precious to God; Psalms 116:15

II.  TO COMMIT MURDER IS SIN: John 8:44

      A.  The Law stated; Numbers 35:16-19

      B.  Paul wrote; Galatians 5:19-21 (21)

      C.  John wrote; Revelation 21:8

III.  WHEN DOES LIFE BEGIN? Genesis 4:1; Jeremiah 1:4-5

        A.  David wrote; Psalms 139:13-16

        B.  John was referred to as a baby before his birth; Luke 1:39-44

        C.  Life begins at the moment of conception!

              1.  Is that life human? Genesis 1:27-28

              2.  Science tells us that the baby has consciousness while in the womb (feels pain; has brain                             waves as early as five weeks etc.)

IV.  IS ABORTION ACCEPTABLE TO GOD?

       A.  Abortion is the intentional taking of a life in the womb.

             1.  Abort is defined “to end prematurely; to cut short”

             2.  Aborticide means “destruction of the embryo or fetus in the womb”

      B.  God says no! Exodus 23:7

            1.  The case of Onan; Genesis 38:8-10

             2.  Accidental killing of an unborn child discussed; Exodus 21:22-25

CONCLUSION:

A.  Because society accepts something does not make it right with God

B.  Abortion is in direct conflict with the will of God; Exodus 20:13

C.  Abortion is sin and no sin can enter heaven; John 8:21

D.  God’s people are to hold themselves to a higher standard; James 1:22
