Warnings Against Apostacy

“WARNINGS AGAINST APOSTASY”

II PETER 3:9-18

 

 

INTRODUCTION:     

            A.        Fruit bearing is a part of the Christian life; Luke 13:6-9; John 15:2

            B.         Christians must grow in the Lord; Galatians 5:22-23

            C.        Christians who fail to be active will fall from grace; Galatians 5:4

                        1.         Many deny this possibility, yet scripture clearly proclaims it; 

                        2.         What God says regarding about apostasy; “Warnings against                                     Apostasy”

 

  I.        “BEWARE, LEST YE FALL”: II Peter 3:17

 

            A.        From your steadfastness; I Corinthians 15:58; Hebrews 3:14

            B.         From your first love; Revelation 2:4

                        1.         Remember, repent and do; Revelation 2:5

                        2.         Be faithful; Revelation 2:10

            C.        From true (sound) doctrine; Revelation 2:20

                        1.         John wrote; Revelation 2:23-26

                        2.         Paul stated; Galatians 1:6-9

 

 II.        “YE ARE FALLEN FROM GRACE”: Galatians 5:4

 

            A.        False teachers and circumcision; Old Testament law

                        1.         Not included in New Testament practice; Galatians 5:2

                        2.         Some embracing it and insisting that others do the same;

           Galatians 5:3-4

            B.         Jesus said of manmade doctrines and commands; Matthew 15:9

                        1.         Vain – with no avail or effect

                        2.         They “Draw away with their lips”; Matthew 15:8

                        3.         Paul wrote; “Ye are fallen”; Galatians 5:4

            C.        Adding to or subtracting from God’s word; Deuteronomy 4:2; Revelation 22:18

 

III.       SCRIPTURAL WARNINGS REGARDING APOSTASY: II Peter 3:17

            A.        Many of the brethren at Galatia had already fallen; Galatians 5:4

            B.         “No other gospel”; Galatians 1:8-9

            C.        The Hebrew writer tells us; Hebrews 2:3

            D.        Peter wrote; II Peter 2:20-22

 

CONCLUSION:

            A.        Christians may live in a way that will make them fall from grace; Hebrews 6:4-6

            B.         Let us examine ourselves and serve God acceptably; Romans 12:2

            C.        John wrote; II John 1:9-11
