WHO IS THE MAN IN THE MIRROR?

LUKE 17:1-10

INTRODUCTION:

A.  James wrote; James 1:22-25 (NKJV)

B.  The song states; “I’m looking at the man in the mirror, asking him to change his ways”; Proverbs                16:25

C.  Man has, from the first one, had problems; Luke 17:1

D.  Jesus offers a way to overcome these problems; John 13:17

E.  What do you see? “Who is the Man in the Mirror?”

I.  ALL SIN; Romans 3:23

A.  Don’t involve others in your sin; Luke 17:1-2

      1.  Drug dealers, pimps, drunkards; often destroy lives;

           I Corinthians 15:33 (ESV)

      2.  Some, even Christians; “I’m better than you”; Matthew 18:1-4

      3.  The apostles request and Jesus answer; Luke 17:5-6

B.  Help others deal with sin; Luke 17:3-4

      1.  Set a Christian example; I Timothy 4:12

      2.  Speak the truth in love; I Timothy 4:15-16: Ephesians 4:15

      3.  Forgiveness and love; Luke 17:3-4; Matthew 6:14-15

II.  THE APOSTLES: “INCREASE OUR FAITH”; Luke 17:5

A.  “Lord, none of us measure up”; Luke 17:10

B.  In essence Jesus replies; “Use what you have”; Luke 17:6

C.  We will face adverse conditions, but we can overcome;

      I Corinthians 10:13

III.  TAKE A CAREFUL LOOK IN THE MIRROR: Luke 17:6-10

A.  The Master/servant relationship: John 13:13-15

      1.  Do what you can do; Luke 17:6

      2.  Don’t mix up the roles; I Peter 5:5

B.  Whatever your lot in life, do all to glorify God; I Corinthians 10:33; 11:7

      1.  Say and do what God created us to say and do; Luke 17:10

      2.  Learn to be content; Philippians 4:11

CONCLUSION:

A.  Take a careful look in the mirror!

B.  Where am I, spiritually? I Timothy 6:11-12

     1.  “Flee, follow, and fight”

     2.  Paul’s example of contentment; Philippians 4:11-13

C.  Where do I stand in matters of faith and duty?
