WHO IS TO BLAME IF I AM LOST?

ROMANS 6:15-23

INTRODUCTION:

A.  Our text speaks of sin and it’s consequence:

      1.  Grace does not authorize sin; Romans 6:15

      2.  Grace plus obedience frees one from past sin; Romans 6:19-20

B.  Our text speaks of life and death:

      1.  The Bible speaks of physical death; Hebrews 9:27

      2.  Our text speaks of spiritual death; Romans 6:23

C.  Our text speaks of freedom from sin and renewal to God; Romans 6:21-22

D.  Our lesson: “Who Is to Blame If I Am Lost?”

I.  IF I AM LOST I WILL NOT BE ALONE:

A.  There is no consolation in the thought that others will be lost:

      1.  The psalmist wrote; Psalm 9:17

      2,  John wrote; Revelation 20:15

B.  There are only two ways of life pictured in our Lord; Matthew 7:13-14

C.  The rich man did not want his brothers to be where he was; Luke 16:28

II.  IF I AM LOST I WILL BE LOST FOREVER:

A.  There is neither release nor escape from hell; Matthew 25:46

B.  No one wants to be condemned; Mark 9:43-44

     1.  The rich man begged for mercy; Luke 16:24

     2.  Once cast into death there is no hope; Revelation 20:14

III.  IF I AM LOST I HAVE NO ONE TO BLAME:

A.  I cannot blame God:

     1.  He gave His Son for me; John 3:16-17

     2.  He gave me the gospel of salvation; Romans 1:16; Ephesians 1:13

     3.  He does not will death to anyone; II Peter 3:9

B.  I cannot blame Christ:

     1.  He died for all; Hebrews 2:9

     2.  He wants all to repent; Luke 13:5

     3.  He invites all to come to Him; Matthew 11:28; John 5:39-40

C.  I cannot blame the Spirit who guided men into all truth; II Peter 1:21

CONCLUSION:

A.  If I am lost, I alone am to blame:

     1.  Because I do not do the “Father’s will”; Matthew 7:21

     2.  Because I would not obey the gospel; II Thessalonians 1:7-9

B.  If I do not grow in grace to faithful living I will be lost; II Peter 3:18;

      Revelation 2:10; 14:13
